5 MINUTES WITH LUCY NAGLE
With an eye for quality textiles, an amazing design talent and a passion for knitwear, Wicklow-born designer Lucy Nagle has been creating beautiful cashmere and merino wool sweaters since 2013.
Tell us about your journey with Brown Thomas since your first CREATE experience?
It’s hard to believe it was 2013 when I got the incredible chance to join CREATE at Brown Thomas, Dublin. Since then, the Lucy Nagle label has really taken off. The CREATE collection was a sell-out, and it afforded me a prime position in the Denim Bar on the 2nd floor. And I’m so happy to say it has been there ever since. Gradually, the collection has extended to BT2 Dundrum and Blanchardstown, and the Brown Thomas stores in Cork, Limerick and Galway.
Thoughts on Irish fashion, Irish women, and style?
Irish women are so stylish. I think we are really good at developing our own sense of style and not being slaves to fashion trends. These days, with the incredible choice of designers and labels and carefully curated selections in stores like Brown Thomas, it's easier for women to have access to interesting International labels. Plus, there are so many great Irish labels and emerging Irish design talent getting noticed globally, I really feel Irish design is having a moment.
What is your inspiration for AW17?
The Lucy Nagle brand is about cashmere that transcends the seasons, so it’s never one particular trend or inspiration that drives the design, but more of an innate sense of what colours people will like and how the styles will suit people’s lifestyles. For autumn, the cobalt blue reminded me of the water - the deep ocean, and the forest greens feel so autumnal and comforting – it’s all about comfort and subtle style for me.
