Mamas and Papas, a leading UK nursery brand and retailer, had a highly customised checkout process built on Shopify’s legacy checkout.liquid framework. Their checkout supported multiple delivery options, including click and collect, named day delivery, weekend delivery, and collection point deliveries. To support future growth and leverage new Shopify features, they needed a scalable solution that maintained their custom functionality while ensuring compatibility with Shopify’s evolving platform.
The objective was to seamlessly migrate Mamas and Papas’ complex checkout to Shopify’s checkout extensibility framework. This migration needed to preserve all existing delivery and multi-channel features while positioning the business for future enhancements, such as one-page checkout. Additionally, the project involved re-architecting their middleware infrastructure to reduce reliance on third-party platforms and shift more business logic onto Shopify’s scalable infrastructure.
Onstate led the migration from Shopify’s legacy checkout.liquid framework to the new checkout extensibility framework, ensuring all custom delivery options and multi-channel features were preserved seamlessly.
The integration of Shopify’s gift card system with Mamas and Papas’ in-house gift card infrastructure ensured a consistent and seamless experience for purchasing and redeeming gift cards both online and in-store.
A custom feature was developed to allow customers who had paid in-store deposits on high-ticket items to complete the remaining balance online through Shopify’s checkout, providing added flexibility and ease for large purchases.
The middleware infrastructure was completely re-architected to reduce reliance on third-party platforms. By shifting core business logic to Shopify’s scalable infrastructure, the checkout became more performant and easier to maintain.
Onstate collaborated closely with Shopify’s checkout team to extend capabilities beyond what was initially supported. This partnership enabled the delivery of tailored solutions that prepared Mamas and Papas for future growth.
With Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions, the checkout is ready for the adoption of upcoming features like one-page checkout and ShopPay, whenever Mamas and Papas decide to implement them.
A comprehensive testing and QA program ensured a seamless transition, rigorously validating every aspect of the checkout functionality to guarantee a flawless customer experience post-migration.
By successfully migrating Mamas & Papas to Shopify’s checkout extensibility framework, we’ve not only preserved the custom functionality their customers rely on but also set them up for future innovation. With a more scalable, efficient infrastructure, they’re ready to take advantage of Shopify’s latest features while reducing reliance on third-party platforms. This project exemplifies our commitment to empowering brands with future-proof solutions that drive growth and keep them ahead in the digital landscape.
